MOSQUITO SPRAYS FOR YARD

To protect yourself from mosquitoes this summer, you can either lather yourself with (greasy, unpleasant smelling) mosquito spray, OR you can get yourself a good mosquito spray and apply it to your yard as a whole. Cut mosquitoes off at the source by attacking the areas where they breed and lay eggs! Framed that way, it seems an obvious choice. There are many high-quality mosquito spray products out there nowadays which are suitable for treating your yard against the blood-sucking pests. Simply attach the bottle to your hose and you are good to go. Many of them also contain ingredients which are non-toxic and eco-friendly and leave no residue so that there is minimal risk of other wildlife being affected by their application (and because there is no residue with these products, they can often be used indoors as well, and around pets and children). There is no unpleasant chemical odour to contend with either with many of these devices.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

Simply put, insecticide in the form of a liquid is sprayed over the foliage, grass etc in your yard and the mosquitoes and other pests, including flies, gnats, spiders, bed bugs etc – as well as their larvae and eggs – that are exposed to it are slowly killed (they generally are not killed on contact). In most cases, the insecticides work by interfering with the insects’ nervous system.

ARE THERE ARE ANY DRAWBACKS OF MOSQUITO SPRAYS FOR THE YARD?

Mosquito sprays for yard generally come in bottles of 16 or 32 fluid ounces – which may not be enough if you have a large yard and want to spray it all. In that case, you will have to buy multiple containers of the stuff or confine yourself to targeting certain mosquito ‘hot spots’. Some insecticide ingredients in mosquito sprays for yard may be quite toxic and environmentally harmful, while others may be gentler on both humans and Mother Nature alike.
